A Head Lice Removal Service
@ Greater Portland, Maine
Well, as it turns out, finding a Biology teaching job anywhere within an hour of my home turned out to be nearly impossible. Around this same frustrating time my own daughter went away to a sleep-away summer camp and returned home with head lice. I, shockingly, discovered I didn't mind the work involved in the delousing process, although it took me a lot longer to "do it right" the first time than I would have liked! I had heard about businesses in the delousing field and felt there might be a need for this sort of thing in the Portland area, so I started dabbling in it by helping other families/moms in my community.
I am licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine, having graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor's degree in Nursing in 1989. I worked 9+ years in several different clinical hospital settings before settling down as a stay-at-home mom for several years raising three children.
I began subbing as a school nurse when my youngest child was in pre-school,
and decided I simply "needed" to return to school myself to pursue my original
childhood desire to become a teacher. I attended classes over the next 2.5 years at
the University of New England in Portland and Biddeford (Maine) to earn my Teaching Certificate in Secondary Science (Biology), completing that goal in December of 2009.
Finally, in March 2013, I decided to take my idea to the next level and start my own legitimate business.
I attended a week-long course at The Shepherd Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida, to become trained
and certified in "The Shepherd Method " of lice and nit removal (Yes, there REALLY are schools
for THAT!) and "Do it Right Delousing" was officially launched in September of that same year.
